①大阪府堺市堺区の百舌鳥から発祥。奈良時代に記録のある地名。地名はモズで「万代」とも表記した。岡山県岡山市では大阪府堺市の出でモズと発音していたと伝える。時代不詳。京都府京都市上京区御所八幡町付近が政庁の室町幕府の幕臣に室町時代、岡山県岡山市に安土桃山時代、岡山県岡山市北区丸の内が藩庁の岡山藩士、岡山県浅口市鴨方町鴨方が藩庁の鴨方藩士に江戸時代にあった。山口県山口市下竪小路では山口県周南市徳山が藩庁の徳山藩士が来住して木谷姓から江戸時代に改姓したと伝える。同地ではバンダイ。木谷キタニ参照。

②大分県中津市耶馬溪町大字福土の小字の万代から発祥。同地付近に分布あり。地名、姓はバンダイ。
