①富山県富山市婦中町道島発祥。江戸時代に記録のある地名。地名はドウジマ。富山県富山市婦中町安田が本拠。
②地形。道と島状の土地から。宮崎県都城市高城町穂満坊では農業に従事していたと伝える。推定では江戸時代。埼玉県行田市本丸の忍城に安土桃山時代、鹿児島県鹿児島市城山町が藩庁の薩摩藩士に江戸時代にあった。
※宮城県石巻市付近（旧：桃生郡）で771年（宝亀2年）に道島宿禰の氏姓を賜った事例があった。
